5,6-Dimethylpyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid dihydrate (DMPD) is a molecule that has an asymmetric carbon atom. It has hydrogen bonding interactions with water molecules, as well as carboxyl groups. DMPD is a colorless crystalline solid that melts at 176°C and boils at 310°C. It is soluble in alcohols, ethers and chloroform.
