1-(Carbamoylmethyl)pyridinium Chloride is a nucleophile that reacts with an electrophile to form a new carbon-nitrogen bond, and is commonly used in organic synthesis as a reagent. The reaction of 1-(Carbamoylmethyl)pyridinium Chloride with an aldehyde produces the corresponding chlorohydrin. When 1-(Carbamoylmethyl)pyridinium Chloride is added to an amide, it forms a substituted amine. This reaction can be reversed by adding hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride. When heated to decompose, the chlorine gas is released.
