This material is synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction between 2,2'-bithiophene and 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyldiazobenzene. The photovoltaic properties of this material are attributed to its high crystallinity and good charge transport properties. The heterojunction design of this material also increases the photovoltaic efficiency by reducing recombination at the interface between layers.
