Description

Aftin 4 is a γ-secretase inhibitor that prevents the production of β-amyloid peptides, which are major components in the formation of amyloid plaques. This drug blocks the action of β-secretase and γ-secretase, preventing the production of β-amyloid peptides. Aftin 4 has been shown to be effective in mouse models for Alzheimer's disease. It also has strong anti-inflammatory properties and reduces the production of proinflammatory cytokines and inflammatory cells. The mechanism by which this drug exerts its effects is not yet known. Aftin 4 is membrane permeable and can be used to treat other diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease, but more research needs to be done before it can be approved for these conditions.
