Description

Fenaminostrobin is a natural product that has been used as an antibiotic, antiparasitic, and antiviral agent. It was first found to be active against microbes in the 1970s and 1980s. Fenaminostrobin is synthesized from a type of fungus known as Penicillium janthinellum. This fungus produces the fenamino group of compounds, which includes fenaminostrobin. Fenaminostrobin inhibits the growth of microbes by binding to their DNA which prevents them from replicating or transcribing DNA. The chemical structure of this compound is similar to that of aminoglycoside antibiotics like streptomycin, gentamicin, neomycin, and tobramycin. Fenaminostrobin also has antiviral properties due to its ability to inhibit RNA synthesis in viruses such as HIV-1 and influenza A virus H5N1.!--
