3-Bromo-4-iodoanisole is a labile biomolecule that belongs to the class of unsymmetrical, pharmacophore ligands. It can be used as a receptor α antagonist and has been shown to inhibit proliferation of human breast cancer cells in vitro. 3-Bromo-4-iodoanisole binds to the proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and blocks its interaction with ligand. PPARγ is involved in the regulation of cell differentiation and proliferation, lipid metabolism, and inflammation. The compound also inhibits the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which is a protein that stimulates blood vessel formation. This drug also interacts with biphenyls, which are compounds that have been reported to cause cancer in animals.
