It can be synthesized by reacting biphenyl with chlorine, giving 2-chlorobiphenyl and 2-phenylfuran. This molecule has been shown to be an acceptor in the reaction with diazonium salt and to react with chloride ions to form a series of approximations. 2-Phenylfuran also has UV absorption properties, which are responsible for its fluorescence emission in the visible range.
