2-Hydroxy-3-methylanthraquinone is an anthraquinone glycoside that has immunomodulatory effects. It inhibits the activity of polymerase chain reaction, which is a technique that can be used to amplify and copy DNA segments. This compound also induces apoptosis by activating the apoptosis pathway, which is a process that leads to programmed cell death. 2-Hydroxy-3-methylanthraquinone has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in leukemic mice, inhibiting tumor growth and metastasis. This compound also has a protective effect on mitochondria by increasing the mitochondrial membrane potential and decreasing fatty acid content in cells.
