Description

Sulfamoyldapsone is a sulfonamide that inhibits the growth of microorganisms by inhibiting their synthesis of folic acid. It is an antibiotic and antiparasitic drug that is used to treat infections caused by bacteria, protozoa, or fungi. The drug may also be used in combination with other antibiotics to increase its effectiveness. Sulfamoyldapsone has antiviral effects against Herpes virus type 1 and 2, as well as influenza viruses A and B, and it may be used as an antiviral agent in the treatment of AIDS. Sulfamoyldapsone has been shown to have antifungal activities against Candida albicans.
