5-(3-(Dimethylamino)propyl)phenanthridin-6(5H)-one is a polymeric matrix that contains fatty acid and fatty acid ester. It has been shown to be an effective drug for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, due to its ability to bind with serotonin transporter gene. 5-(3-(Dimethylamino)propyl)phenanthridin-6(5H)-one is used in pharmaceutical dosage forms and as a diagnostic agent. The drug can be reconstituted with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, such as saline or water, for injection into patients. When administered intravenously, 5-(3-(Dimethylamino)propyl)phenanthridin-6(5H)-one binds to serotonin transporter gene and prevents the reuptake of serotonin by cells in the gastrointestinal tract.
