The compound has been shown to bind to dinucleotide phosphate and inhibit bacterial enzyme catalysis. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of substrates for the enzyme and a decrease in the production of ATP. (2S,5R)-5-Methyl-2-prop-1-en-2-ylcyclohexanone inhibits the growth of Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans strains but not Trichophyton mentagrophytes. This may be due to its ability to bind with high affinity to rat liver microsomes, but not human microsomes. (2S,5R)-5
