The isolation and identification of this compound was first described by J. G. H. Moulton in 1892. Synthesis of this chemical takes place in two steps: the first step is the conversion of dienes (diene) into an isobenzofuran followed by a second step that involves the conversion of this intermediate into 1,3-dihydro-1-methoxyisobenzofuran.
