5-Chloro-2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (CDBA) is a natural product that is found in plants and animals. 5-Chloro-2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid is an inhibitor of the enzyme glutathione reductase, which catalyzes the reduction of glutathione disulfide to glutathione. This compound has been shown to act as a catalyst for the synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes with nitrogen atoms on the surface. CDBA has also been shown to be a potential cancer drug candidate because it prevents cell growth and proliferation by inhibiting DNA synthesis. CDBA may also be used to treat osteoporosis or other bone diseases due to its ability to inhibit bone resorption by preventing osteoclast activation.
