- Meglumine gadopentate
- Gadolinium [bis[2-[(carboxylatomethyl)(carboxymethyl)amino]ethyl]amino]acetate 1-deoxy-1-(methylamino)-D-glucitol (1:1)
Gadopentetate monomeglumine is a bimodal, fluorescent contrast agent that is used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to help visualize the blood flow. It has two different modes of excitation: at a wavelength of 800 nm and at a wavelength of 915 nm. Gadopentetate monomeglumine is soluble in hydrochloric acid and deionized water, which makes it an efficient method for producing gadolinium contrast agents. Gadopentetate monomeglumine is also very effective at enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio in vivo. This agent can be used as a carbon source for nanodots, which are small particles with diameters on the order of nanometers. Gadopentetate monomeglumine is toxic to cells and causes fluorescence when it enters the cell due to its chemical properties.
