Prinomastat is a small molecule that inhibits the protein MCL-1. It has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mouse xenograft models of human breast, lung, and prostate cancer. This drug also blocks the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that break down collagen and other extracellular matrix components. Prinomastat inhibits iron homeostasis and induces apoptosis in epithelial cells, suggesting a role for this drug in the treatment of bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease.
