Ac-Trp-OEt is a tryptophan derivative that contains an acetyl group, a trityl group, and oleic acid. It is used as a substrate for enzyme assays to investigate the activation energies of enzymes such as chymotrypsin and chymotrypsin-like proteases. Ac-Trp-OEt is fluorescent in the presence of ultraviolet light, which can be detected using spectrophotometry. Ac-Trp-OEt has been used to study the activity of serine proteases such as neurokinin-1 receptor and collagenase. Ac-Trp-OEt also binds to chloride ions with high affinity, which can be used to study ion binding by ion exchange chromatography.
