Description

Fast Red RC salt is a colorant that is used to stain biological samples for microscopy. It works by binding to nucleic acids and proteins, which makes them visible under a microscope. Fast Red RC salt is activated with ultraviolet light or diazonium salt, which causes the dye to bind to nucleic acids and proteins in cells. The dye binds to phosphatase enzymes, which helps it penetrate cell membranes and enter the nucleus of the cell. There it binds to DNA, RNA, and protein molecules inside the nucleus. The dye also has the ability to bind with free radicals that are created during radiation exposure, which may help protect cells from damage caused by radiation. Fast Red RC salt can be used on tissue sections as well as live cells because of its high specificity for nucleic acid-containing structures.
