Potassium humate (K(OH)CH(COOH)) is a naturally occurring organic compound that is a salt of potassium and citric acid. It is used as an additive in the food industry and has been shown to have enzyme activities. This compound also has a reaction mechanism with water vapor, which may be due to its ability to react with hydrochloric acid. Potassium humate is not toxic to humans, but can be toxic to bacteria. The kinetic energy of potassium humate particles may contribute to this uptake.
