The synthesis starts with potassium phosphate and 2,2-dimethoxypropane. This reaction produces aziridine and then methoxylated aziridine, which is then hydrolyzed to 1-benzyl-3-methylnaphthalene. Impurities may result from the use of impure potassium phosphate or 2,2-dimethoxypropane. Hydrochloric acid is also used during the process and may lead to acidic compounds.
