Lysobactin is a synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria. It was synthesized by the asymmetric addition of nitrobenzyl alcohol to 2-amino-3-(2-nitrobenzoyl)propanoic acid and hydrolysis of the ester groups. Lysobactin has been shown to be active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, although it is more effective against human pathogens than animal pathogens. The linker compound is used for solid-phase synthesis, which enables the attachment of other molecules at specific positions on a solid support. This process can be used for the synthesis of polymers with defined molecular weights and structures.
