Description :
(S)-(+)-5,5-Dimethyl-4-phenyl-2-oxazolidinone is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C6H13NO. It is a racemic mixture that is used as a reagent for the synthesis of oxazolidinones and related compounds. (S)-(+)-5,5-Dimethyl-4-phenyl-2-oxazolidinone has been shown to be more reactive than its enantiomer, (R)-(-)-5,5-dimethyl-4 phenyloxazolidinone. The acid methyl esters of these two compounds react with chloride to form chloroformates in high yields at room temperature. (S)-(+)-5,5-Dimethyl-4 phenyloxazolidinone can also be used to synthesize pentane derivatives and other chiral compounds under kinetic or preparative conditions.
