(5-Iodo-2-methoxyphenyl)methanamine is a nucleoside analog that was synthesized to be an antagonist of the adenosine receptor. It has been shown to inhibit cyclase activity, which may lead to its anti-inflammatory properties. (5-Iodo-2-methoxyphenyl)methanamine is a potent inhibitor of adenosine deaminase, which converts adenosine into inosine and ammonia. This inhibition leads to increased levels of adenosine and subsequent activation of the A1 and A2A receptors, leading to analgesic effects. The affinity of this drug for other receptors such as the A3 receptor is not known.
