1-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)propan-2-ol is a high efficiency, short latency, and high yield chemical compound that is used in the pharmaceutical industry as an optical reagent. It is also used as a reaction product for carbonyl compounds to produce active substances. The compound has been shown to be effective against cryptococcus, which can cause infections in humans. 1-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)propan-2-ol inhibits the growth of this fungus by binding to its cell wall. This binding prevents the formation of phosphotriester bonds with the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase, which is required for cell wall biosynthesis and protein synthesis.
