Description :
5-Dodecanone is a byproduct of the oxidation of n-hexane. It is a colorless, viscous liquid with a waxy odor. 5-Dodecanone is used as an ingredient in surfactants, which are used to reduce surface tension and stabilize foams. The mechanism of 5-dodecanone’s reaction with chloride is not well understood, but it has been shown that halides can activate the molecule at low temperatures.
5-Dodecanone also reacts with fatty acids to form esters and malonate esters, which are found in products such as perfume.
