4,6-Dihydroxyisophthalic acid is a supramolecular compound that has been shown to be protonated at pH 7.0. This protonation causes the molecule to change its optical properties and reactivity. 4,6-Dihydroxyisophthalic acid has been found to have high chromatographic efficiencies in the separation of nitro compounds. It also has an incrementally ultrafast amide formation reaction time and isomerizes from 4,6-dihydroxyisophthalic acid to 2,4,6-trihydroxyisophthalic acid at 130 degrees Celsius. Finally, 4,6-dithyhdroxylhydroxypyrimidine-2(1H)-one can be formed by reacting 4,6-dithyhdroxylhydroxypyrimidine with hydrazine in methanol at room temperature for 10 minutes.
