Description :Dimethyl 4-oxo-1,4-dihydropyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate is a histone deacetylase inhibitor. It binds to the active site of the enzyme's zinc atom and prevents the removal of acetyl groups from lysine residues on histones. Dimethyl 4-oxo-1,4-dihydropyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate stabilizes nucleosomal DNA in cells and prevents DNA damage. It is also an apoptotic agent that can induce cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis. This molecule has a protonated water molecule as a tautomer and two hydroxy groups that may be protonated or deprotonated depending on pH conditions. The sulfoxide group is susceptible to oxidation reactions.
