Buprofezin is an insecticide that belongs to the group of pyridyloxyphenoxy propionate compounds. It is used for the control of mosquitoes and other insects in wastewater treatment plants. Buprofezin has been shown to be toxic to humans, causing a number of adverse effects including primary pulmonary hypertension, which may be due to its ability to inhibit enzyme activity. It also causes damage to DNA by interacting with dinucleotide phosphate and protein synthesis by inhibiting p450 activity in cells. Buprofezin has not been found to have carcinogenic potential or increased toxicity in animal studies.
