Decyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (D4HB) is a sulphamate, which is an oestrone ester. It has been investigated for its physicochemical and pharmacological properties as a potential inhibitor of sulphatase enzymes. D4HB is able to inhibit the enzyme activity of these enzymes, which are involved in the biosynthesis of steroid hormones. This inhibition leads to an increase in oestrogen levels, which may be beneficial for breast cancer treatment. D4HB also has potent inhibitory effects on chain alkyl sulfatases, which are involved in the metabolism of various drugs and endogenous compounds. These inhibitory effects suggest that it may be used as a chemotherapeutic agent against cancer cells.
