Description

Rizatriptan belongs to the class of triptans and is used as a treatment for migraine. Rizatriptan binds to 5-HT2 receptors in the pain pathways of the brain and blocks the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine that are responsible for pain and other symptoms associated with migraine. This drug has been shown to be effective in clinical trials involving patients with chronic migraine (15 or more headache days per month). It also has been shown to have few adverse effects, such as nausea, dizziness, and dry mouth.
