• Description: YM 26734 is a fatty acid that has been shown to inhibit the activity of secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2). This enzyme is responsible for releasing arachidonic acid from membrane phospholipids, which can then be converted into pro-inflammatory molecules. YM 26734 inhibits sPLA2 by binding to its active site and preventing the conversion of arachidonic acid to inflammatory molecules. It also prevents the activation of inflammation-inducing enzymes, such as cyclooxygenase 2 and 5 lipoxygenase. YM 26734 has been shown to have a clinical relevance in the treatment of dental caries and periodontal disease. The effective dose for this drug has not yet been established.
