A 357300 is also thought to inhibit the production of methionine aminopeptidase, which is an enzyme that degrades the amino acid methionine. This leads to higher levels of methionine in the gut, which activates a type of immune cell called a macrophage. Activated macrophages release nitric oxide (NO), which can help treat bowel disease by reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow in the gut.
