It blocks the formation of malondialdehyde, which are toxic byproducts of lipid peroxidation, and protects cells from oxidative damage in animal models of Parkinson's disease. 1-tert-Butoxycarbonylpiperidine-4-carboxylic acid methyl amide also has the ability to bind to alpha synuclein (a protein associated with Parkinson's disease) and inhibit its aggregation, as well as bind to markers associated with hyperproliferative diseases such as striatal markers. This molecule may also be useful for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with carbonyl groups.
