• Description: Vilazodone D8 is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) uptake inhibitor. Vilazodone D8 is a racemic mixture of (+)-vilazodone and (-)-vilazodone, which are both active. The drug inhibits serotonin reuptake, increasing the level of serotonin in the synaptic space. Vilazodone D8 has affinity for 5-HT1A receptors and acts as a partial agonist. It also has affinity for 5-HT2A receptors and acts as an antagonist. This drug blocks the uptake of serotonin in presynaptic neurons by binding to the transporter protein that transports serotonin from synaptic spaces back into nerve cells, effectively increasing serotonin levels in the synaptic space.
