Description

Picralinal is a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid that is biosynthesized in the apocynaceae plant family. Picralinal has been shown to have a number of therapeutic properties, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic and muscle relaxant effects. Picralinal inhibits COX-1 and has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect in vivo through inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Picralinal also has an analgesic effect by inhibiting voltage-gated sodium ion channels and potassium ion channels in muscle cells.
A picralinal extract can be used as a clinical treatment for pain in muscles and joints by decreasing inflammation and increasing local blood flow.
