Informations sur le produit
5-Methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidin-4(3H)-one is a sulfonamide that causes inhibition of HIV replication. It binds to the active site of the reverse transcriptase, which is an enzyme necessary for DNA synthesis. 5-Methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidin-4(3H)-one has been shown to inhibit HIV replication in vitro and to have antiviral effects against HIV-1 in vivo. This drug does not bind well to other nucleic acids and does not affect host cell DNA synthesis. 5-Methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidin-4(3H)-one is activated by lithiation, which facilitates its binding to the reverse transcriptase active site, when it is present in concentrations of up to 10 mM. The drug also has antiplasmodial activity, but this may be due to its ability to bind thymine residues on the surface of red
