3-Bromo-2-naphthoic acid is a hydroxy derivative of 2-naphthol. It has been shown to bind to guanine in DNA and form covalent adducts, leading to the disruption of DNA synthesis and replication. 3-Bromo-2-naphthoic acid also inhibits the activity of DNA polymerase, leading to an accumulation of single stranded DNA molecules. This drug can cause exocyclic alkylation of deoxyguanosine residues, leading to significant cytotoxic effects on tumor cells. 3-Bromo-2-naphthoic acid has significant cytotoxic activity against a wide range of cancer cell lines at low concentrations.
