UCSF4226 is a novel synthetic small molecule that activates the melatonin receptor. It has been shown to modulate physiological processes, such as circadian rhythm and sleep quality. UCSF4226 is a competitive antagonist of the melatonin receptor, binding to it with high affinity and selectivity. The compound has been shown to be efficacious in animal models of jet lag and chronic insomnia.
