- Methyl 2-chloroacetiMidate HCl
Methyl 2-chloroacetimidate hydrochloride (2-CAA) is an antibacterial agent that can be used to treat a variety of infections, including bronchitis and ulcerative colitis. 2-CAA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. The drug is also active against some Gram-negative bacterial strains, such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. This compound is an analog of thiocarbamide and is structurally related to the heterocyclic compounds pyridyl, furyl, and sulfur. 2-CAA binds to the sulfur atom in the bacterial enzyme methyl coenzyme M reductase (MCR). Binding prevents the formation of a reactive intermediate that would otherwise inhibit thiols involved in cellular metabolism. This drug has been shown to be toxic in animals when administered by injection or orally.
