Description

UBP 296 is a regulatory agent that inhibits the voltage-gated cation channels in brain and peripheral cells. It has been shown to be a potent anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, and analgesic agent. UBP 296 has also been shown to reduce locomotion in rats. This drug is currently being tested for its potential use as an anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and chronic prostatitis. UBP 296 may be useful for treating infantile spasms, which are epileptic seizures that occur in children under one year of age. The drug has been shown to have a beneficial effect on these seizures by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels.
