WEHI-539 hydrochloride is a monoclonal antibody that is being developed as a tumor treatment. The antibody binds to c-Jun and inhibits the phosphorylation of this protein. This inhibition leads to decreased activation of the Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway and reduced tumor growth. WEHI-539 hydrochloride has been shown to reduce tumor size in animal models, but it does not affect normal cells. It also reduces the production of growth factors that are involved in cancer cell proliferation. WEHI-539 hydrochloride has been shown to be effective against colorectal adenocarcinoma, but not against other types of tumors such as prostate cancer or breast cancer.
WEHI-539 hydrochloride is used in conjunction with statins, which inhibit cholesterol synthesis and have anti-inflammatory properties, and diode laser therapy, which can induce apoptosis by damaging DNA.
