Description

Azaspiro[3.3]heptane-6-carboxylic acid is an analog of the amino acid proline, which has been found in nature and can be synthesized from the cyclization of azaspiro[3.3]heptane-6-carboxylic acid chloride and ammonia. This compound has a spirocyclic ring system and is a member of the family of compounds known as spirolides. Azaspiro[3.3]heptane-6-carboxylic acid is used in organic synthesis as a chiral building block for the preparation of various amino acids, including beta-alanine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It also has been shown to have antiinflammatory activity in animal models.
