5-Methyl-[1,2,4]triazole-3,4-diamine hydrobromide is a ligand that binds to cadmium (Cd) and forms a square planar complex. The ligand is coordinated by two chloride ions and four nitrogen atoms. The ligand has an elemental analysis of C: 35.36%, H: 3.81%, N: 39.06%. The elemental analysis can be used to identify the compound as 5-methyl-[1,2,4]triazole-3,4-diamine hydrobromide because the percentages of the elements are within the ranges indicated in the experiment. FTIR spectroscopy was used to confirm this identification because it gave a high intensity peak at 1618 cm-1 in its spectrum. Single crystal XRD data was collected to determine the molecular geometry and diffraction pattern of the molecule which showed it had a geometrical packing with a space group P
