It is one of the most abundant lipids found in biological membranes, accounting for approximately 10% of all membrane lipids. 13:0 PC is an important component of lipid bilayers and its concentration varies according to the type of cell it is found in. The thermodynamic data for 13:0 PC has been determined by measuring the fluorescence intensity from samples that were prepared using different solvents and different sample cells. The viscosity and phase transition temperature for this lipid have also been measured using a monolayer technique. 13:0 PC can be observed through microscopy when analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) microscopy.
