Brequinar is a dihydroorotate dehydrogenase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial function and replication of DNA. The drug is used in combination therapy with other agents, such as uridine, for the treatment of colon cancer. Brequinar works by inhibiting the formation of dihydroorotate, which is an intermediate in pyrimidine synthesis. It also has immunosuppressive properties and can be used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
