Description

2-Cyanomethyl-S-dodecyltrithiocarbonate is a polymer drug that is synthesized from the reaction of anhydrous hydrogen cyanide and dodecyl mercaptan. It has been shown to have a particle size of approximately 3 microns and an average hydroxyl group density of 0.6 meq/g. 2-Cyanomethyl-S-dodecyltrithiocarbonate polymerizes with the aid of a free radical initiator and is stable under ambient conditions. The compound has been shown to have optical properties that depend on its degree of polymerization, with increasing degrees of polymerization leading to decreased transparency due to increased absorption by the hydroxy groups. The compound also undergoes a phase transition at a temperature of -30°C, which may be useful for applications as sealant or glue.
