IQ 1S is a small molecule that inhibits the production of tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). It has been shown to have vasodilatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activation of proinflammatory cytokines. IQ 1S has also been shown to protect neurons from damage in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases. This drug also inhibits matrix metalloproteinases, which are enzymes that break down collagen and other proteins in the extracellular matrix. In addition, this drug has antihypertensive activity and lowers blood pressure in animals. It is thought that IQ 1S may work by inhibiting the c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathway.
