Erysubin A is a saponin that has been shown to have antidiabetic and anti-obesity effects in rats. It was found to inhibit the activity of pancreatic lipase, which is involved in the digestion of dietary fats. This inhibition may be due to its ability to bind to active site residues in the enzyme's active site. Erysubin A also inhibits receptor substrate-1, an enzyme that is involved in the production of inflammatory mediators. Erysubin A binds to flavonoids and isoflavones and has been shown to interact with other natural compounds such as suberosa, which is a polysaccharide found in sugarcane extract.
