Ergocristinine is a secondary metabolite that belongs to the ergoline alkaloid family. It has been isolated from a bacterial strain and identified as an ergocryptine derivative. Ergocristinine inhibits matrix metalloproteinases, thereby preventing the breakdown of collagen in skin cells. This compound also inhibits the activity of certain enzymes in humans and mice, including phospholipase A2, cyclooxygenase-1, and cyclooxygenase-2. Ergocristinine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. The analytical method for ergocristine involves the use of LC-MS/MS with a fluorescence detector.
