18-Bromo-1-octadecene (18BD) is a thiophene that can be polymerized to form polymers with copolymerizable groups. Polymers made from 18BD have been shown to be processable and are useful in microelectronics. The crystallization of the polymer chain produces platelets that have a lamellar structure with an electronic structure that can be modified by the addition of fluorine atoms. The 18BD molecule has a molecular structure consisting of two benzene rings joined together.
