Antidesmone is a labiate alkaloid that belongs to the acridone group. It is found in plants of the Labiatae family, such as Achillea millefolium and Anthemis cotula. The antifungal activity of Antidesmone has been demonstrated in vitro. This compound inhibits the growth of both protozoan parasites and parasitic worms by inhibiting membrane systems or altering regulatory pathways. Antidesmone also has an inhibitory effect on chronic pulmonary inflammation. Protosorbic acid, a metabolite of Antidesmone, has been shown to inhibit respiratory burst in neutrophils, suggesting that this compound may be a potential therapeutic agent for inflammatory lung diseases.
